How To Put God First In Your Life – Part 8

“Let’s Make It Modern” Worship Session

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12:1)

Are you worshipping God the way He desires? Perhaps you believe that worshipping God is found in modern “Christian” songs. You sing a worldly tune, perform a fleshly dance, and feel a tingle. This, however, is not true worship of God. I could elaborate on Satan’s infiltration into the church and the “Christian” music industry, but many wiser men have already done so. You need to be separated from the world and different from it. Worldliness is the antithesis of godliness. God has called you to holiness, not sensuality. He tells us how He wants us to worship Him.

Worship and serve God above everything else. The Lord God is the only One to be worshipped and served (Luke 4:8; Deuteronomy 6:13, 10:20). Christians, while no longer under the Old Testament law, must not worship or serve other “gods” (Deuteronomy 29:26). No strange or foreign “god” should have first place in your heart (Psalm 81:9). As Christians living in the age of grace, we are free in Christ (Romans 8:1-3), but this is not a justification to continue practices contrary to God! God’s heart remains unchanging (James 1:17; Malachi 3:6). Do not worship creation instead of the Creator (Romans 1:25). Avoid mystery religions (Ezekiel 8:16) and do not serve lifeless idols or man-made “gods” crafted from wood or stone (Deuteronomy 4:28; Isaiah 2:8). God instructed the Israelites to destroy places of idol worship and symbols of idolatry, and not to participate in them (Deuteronomy 12:4). For you, this means eliminating anything you idolize from your life (Galatians 5:19-21). Seek to live for God alone and be sanctified (Romans 6:5-14).

Worship God through continual praise. Wholeheartedly and sacrificially praise, glorify, and give thanks to the name of the LORD (Psalm 34:3; Psalm 86:12; Hebrews 13:15). Worship Him by offering up your life—all day long (Psalm 113:3), every day, while you live (Psalm 63:3-4), and until you die (Psalm 104:33; 146:2)!

Worship God in your conduct. Worship in reverence and holiness (Psalm 96:9). Declare the glory of the LORD’s name, and worship God by living a holy life (Psalm 29:2). Do not exchange God’s truth for lies (Romans 1:25). Be true worshippers of God the Father in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24). Walk in the name of the LORD God, not in the name of a “god” of your understanding (Micah 4:5).

Worship God in His presence. Proclaim His holiness at His holy hill where He is enthroned and dwells (Psalm 99:9), and also dwell with Him in humility at His footstool (Psalm 99:5; Psalm 132:7). Bow down and kneel before the LORD your maker (Psalm 95:6).

Worship God as a body of believers. Let God’s Word and grace teach and admonish you; speak to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with melody in your heart to the Lord (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16-17). Be careful not to love the praise of people above God’s praise (John 12:43).

Worldwide worship of God. Modern Christian music is gaining popularity worldwide because it’s relatable to secular culture. Be cautious. Do not create or play the music that turns your heart away from God toward your desires (Amos 5:23). The only acceptable worldly worship is when all of creation has reverence and awe toward the LORD (Psalm 33:8). The book of Psalms foretells a time when the whole world will worship and sing praises to the name of the LORD (Psalm 66:4). All nations will come and worship before the Lord and will glorify His name (Psalm 86:9). But until then, we must worship in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24).

Put God first as an act of worship.

How It Applies To You

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Cultivating a lifestyle of worship. Reflect on how these worship principles can transform your daily life. Every moment, from morning to night, can be an act of worship. Prioritizing God in all aspects of life leads to deeper purpose and fulfillment.

From ritual to lifestyle. True worship is a lifestyle of reverence, not confined to specific times or places. View each task as an opportunity to glorify God, leading to a shift in perspective and priorities. This mindset change helps you see the sacred in the ordinary.

A deeper relationship with God. This deepens your relationship with God, bringing joy and peace. As you acknowledge God’s presence in every aspect of your life, you’ll experience a sense of harmony and balance.

Embracing transformation. Start implementing these principles today to experience the transformative power of a God-centered life. By making worship a lifestyle, you’ll discover a more meaningful, purpose-driven existence, reflecting God’s love and glory in all you do.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to see every moment as an opportunity for worship. Transform my daily routines into acts of reverence and praise. Guide me to live a life that continually glorifies You, in both the ordinary and extraordinary moments. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
